Terms of Reference (August 23, 2004)

Mandate:
To provide the CCAR Executive with advice on appropriate activities related to surveillance of antibiotic resistance and antibiotic use in humans. The initial focus of the Working Group will be to:

  1. Promote the implementation of key Action Items from the National Action Plan (Action Items 1a, 1b, 2 and 3);
  2. Provide input on the surveillance component of the program for the 2005 Conference on New Approaches to Dealing with Resistance;
  3. Understand current surveillance activities in Canada and facilitate improved efficiencies and cooperative activities;
  4. Encourage the new Public Health Agency to adopt resistance surveillance as a priority.

Membership:
The members will be representatives from the Canadian health care community with an interest in surveillance issues. Members will be appointed by CCAR. Working Group membership is expected to change over time. Working Group members include:

Meetings:
Meetings will generally be held via teleconference and are expected to be held several times each year. Meetings will called by the Chair and members will be provided at least one week prior notice.

Term:
It is expected that the Working Group will remain active until at least March 31, 2006.
